THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

I have the honour to invite attention to

my secret despatch of the 20th September, concerning

a conference which I had on the 19th September with

kir. Fêng Tso-wan, and to inform you with reference

to paragraphs 6, 7 and 8 of my secret despatch of the

30th September that I received today at Government

House a visit from Mr. Luk Wan-chau, who was accom-

panied by Mr. Liang Shih-yi, Sir Shouson Chow and

Dr. Kotewall.

You will remember that Mr. Luk Wan-chau

is the intermediary chosen by General Li Chai-sum to convey to me any messages of importance from the present Canton régime.

2. I enclose a memorandum, prepared by Dr.

Kotewall, summarizing the conversation which took

place. This conversation was entirely in Cantonese

and lasted about an hour; and it is very interesting

as being the first authentic news of the agreement

made by Generul Li Chai-sum with General Cheung

Fat-fui, who returned to Canton (as it now appears)

on the 27th September. The letter from General Li to

myself, to which reference is made, was an acknowledge-

ment of my letter to him expressing condolence for

the loss

LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.K.S. AERY, M.P.,
